Doctor Recommended .. Is it Always Best???

by Nadia Harper

Does anyone else out there find it interesting that the medical doctors tell you that drugs are bad and that you should stay away from drugs.... but the moment you get sick most of them will give you drugs?

Or they say that radiation and chemicals are bad but if you get cancer most will recommend radiation and chemicals?

I find this fascinating and very telling. I find it even more fascinating that these points were mentioned to me by a medical doctor. Yes, a medical doctor! He, of course, is a very open minded and grounded individual. And he proves that there are some (hopefully more and more) medical doctors out there that are open minded to natural and holistic viewpoints.

Unfortunately, though, there are still many doctors that rush through meetings with patients, have a poor knowledge of nutrition and prevention and are not a picture of health themselves.

I think that the bottom line is to always;

  • think about the advice you are being given and feel if it makes sense to you
  • do your own research
  • get a 2nd (or more) opinion from people passionate in different areas (ie medical, holistic, nutrition, chinese medicine ... there are many types of healers)
  • take responsibility for the choices you make every day that are healthy vs not so healthy
  • know that you are responsible for your own health, not
    someone else
  • remember what it means to make healthy lifestyle choices and that this protects you and prevents health challenges

I am not here to bash the medical establishment as I believe that they have made great advancements, have amazing diagnostic tools and are particularly good in trauma situations. And I also believe that they have some shortcomings.

We need doctors but we also need to take responsibility for our own health and the health of our children. I am not saying that there is never a place for pharmaceutical drugs but there are far too many situations nowadays that can be resolved or prevented by healthy lifestyle choices.

We all have bodies that are designed to be healthy. Make the effort to remember and to take action on how to maintain that health.

Plug into resources that share honestly helpful information with you. Don't be sucked in by tactics that tell you that a sugary boxed cereal is the best thing for you and your kids.

Always remember that the sole interest of most of these companies is their bottom dollor - NOT your health! Supporting their profit margin takes away from your health. That doesn't make sense, why do it???

It is up to you to make your health and the health of your children your priority. It is your birthright... you deserve it and you are worth it!

I sort of agree

you know doctors are not GOD so they could be wrong too sometimes so i think your extensive research and consulting to multiple doctors is always a great thing to do rather then believing on the first thing you hear from your doctor. if you want to have a healthy and happy life style you can checkout Public Relations

Well said Nadia, and true. :) Doctors can be(and usually are)fabulous caring people who get into a profession for the right reasons and then find themselves severely overworked. We need to be more proactive in our own health, and not just sign off to a doctor, allopathic or naturopathic the complete power to our healing. ;) They don't deserve that responsiblity as it's quite a burden to be "the" reason somone heals or not. WE however, are far more powerful than we realize sometimes and as you said, our bodies want to be healthy and in balance, we simply need to give them the tools to do so.

So Frustrated!
by: Anonymous

I was just at my doctors office and am so frustrated that all he wants to do is rush through my visit with him, give me prescriptions and send me on my way. There is more to health that that?!?!?!

This is a great topic, information that needs to be shared so people can think about it.

I also believe that medical science is a respectable and needed profession. I also agree in their shortcomings. Often, medicines and surgical procedures are opted for (or one is left with no other choice) because choosing a healthier lifestyle is not one's choice.
Yes, certain cases require pharmaceuticals and medical procedures but far too many are avoidable if lifestyle changes had been or are engaged in.
